Madisa is between Uis and Khorixas in the Kunene Region. From the C35, take the D2612 and travel around 18 km towards Twyfelfontein and the Goantagab River.

The road is accessible by 2x4 but can be corrugated and bumpy. Drive carefully, allow enough time, and use the contact details below if you need help finding camp.

Practical Camp Information

Madisa is a remote, solar-powered camp. A little preparation makes the stay easier.

Water
Camp water contains a high level of lime and is not recommended for drinking; bottled water is sold at the bar.
Ice
Ice is usually available but cannot always be guaranteed.
Electricity and charging
Electricity and charging times differ between accommodation areas; bring power banks and charge only small electronics.
Firewood and braai grids
Firewood is sold at Reception; braai grids are available against a refundable N$500 deposit.
Meals
Breakfast and dinner must be booked before arrival. Safari Tent rates are bed-only; camping guests may self-cater.
Pets
Pets are allowed but must be kept under control, particularly when wildlife is close to camp.

Can I reach Madisa in a normal vehicle?

Yes. Madisa is accessible by 2x4, although the gravel road can be corrugated and bumpy.

Can I drink the tap water?

The camp water contains a high level of lime and is not recommended for drinking. It is suitable for showering and brushing teeth, and bottled water is sold at the bar.

Are meals included?

Safari Tent rates are bed-only. Breakfast and dinner can be pre-booked; camping guests may self-cater.

Is there electricity?

Madisa is solar-powered. Electricity and charging times differ between accommodation areas, so bring power banks and charge only small electronics.

Will we see elephants?

Desert-adapted elephants move freely over a large area, so sightings can never be guaranteed.

Is Madisa fenced?

No. Madisa is in unfenced wilderness. Remain alert and follow camp-team safety guidance.

Unfenced wilderness

When Elephants Pass Through Camp

Madisa lies within the natural range of Namibia’s desert-adapted elephants. When elephants are nearby:

  • Keep a respectful distance and never approach.
  • Do not shine torches or bright lights.
  • Do not use flash photography.
  • Remain calm and do not run if an elephant approaches.
  • Avoid shouting, sudden movement and loud noise.
  • Keep pets calm, close and under control.
  • Listen for breaking branches or low rumbling sounds at night.
  • Follow the Madisa team’s guidance at all times.

Reservation Policy

After receiving a reservation request, Madisa will send a provisional confirmation. Provisional reservations must be confirmed 60 days before arrival.

Once the booking is confirmed, a tax invoice will be issued. Full payment is due 30 days before arrival unless otherwise agreed. Proof of payment must be emailed to Reservations before final confirmation is issued.

Group / Block Booking Policy

A 20% non-refundable deposit is required when a block booking is made. Provisional rooming lists are due 90 days before arrival, and final rooming lists are due 60 days before arrival unless otherwise agreed.

Child Policy

Children 0–3 stay free; 4–11 pay 50% of adult accommodation rate; 12+ pay adult rate.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellation fees: 60–31 days 20%; 30–16 days 50%; 15–0 days 100%.
